Description:

Provides group and individual services to help parents and child care providers of young, at risk children, ages birth to three, develop language, literacy, social, and other skills.

First Teacher: West Linn-Wilsonville School District, Clackamas County

Description:

Bolton Primary School is launching the First Teacher program to help parents and their infants and toddlers come to kindergarten ready to learn. The program is modeled after a successful program started by Clark College in Washington.

Parent Early Language & Literacy Education: Josephine County Early Intervention Services

Description:

A parent education program that consists of six interactive sessions for parents of at-risk infants and toddlers, addressing early language and literacy development. Curriculum emphasizes coaching or teaching parents to capitalize on daily occurring learning opportunities. Program will be offered three times a year to reach a maximum of 30 families with children attending programs operated by Healthy Start, Early Head Start, and Project Baby Check and to children whose families are involved in the child welfare system.

Early Literacy Partnership: Oregon Child Development Coalition, Klamath County

Description:

A multi-faceted collaborative project addressing readiness gaps. Elements include workshops for parents and child care providers on early brain development, a story van that will regularly visit child care centers and providers, a Children's Learning Fair and an early learning series offered through cable television.

Learning Circle: Washington County Community Action Organization

Description:

Offers on-site literacy training and modeling for traditionally hard-to-reach child care providers who are generally not registered. These providers are Spanish speaking and often closely related to the child/children in their care.
